Ford equips new Focus with ‘Wrong Way Alert’ technology
Automaker will offer new safety feature on new Focus in Austria, Germany and Switzerland
Ford has introduced ‘Wrong Way Alert’ technology in the all-new Focus for European market, the automaker said in a press release on 6 August. The technology is based on Ford’s Traffic Sign Recognition technology, that relies on GPS information from the onboard navigation system to identify the car location and a forward-facing camera to detect important signs such as speed limits and display them on the vehicle’s touchscreen or head-up display. In the event a driver passes two ‘no-entry’ signs on either side of a service road of a motorway, Wrong Way Alert sounds a warning sound and displays a red ‘no-entry’ symbol and a text message to ‘check driving direction’.
