The final rules depend on the outcome of intense negotiations between European Parliament and the European Commission

On Tuesday (9 October), the European Council agreed to more stringent CO2 emissions reduction targets for new cars and vans, the European Union (EU) said in a press release today. The Council has finalized that new cars will have to reduce CO2 emissions by 35% by 2030, compared to 2021 level. For new vans, the CO2 emissions reduction target is 30% by the end of next decade. Both, new cars and vans, will also have to cut CO2 emissions by 15% by 2025.
