Automated Valet Parking: OEM strategy review
Different schools of thought seem to emerge following testing of Level 4 automated valet parking.
Vehicle manufactures started introducing systems that automate the parking task to some extent some time ago but ultimately the driver was still in charge. However, recent developments in vehicle autonomy are going a step further. Parking systems classified under SAE level 4 autonomy are generally referred to as remote valet parking and are currently under development by several vehicle manufacturers. These systems are capable of autonomously parking the vehicles in designated parking spots after being dropped off by the driver. Remote valet parking is aimed at making parking in densely populated areas easier.
