Mercedes-Benz recalls 341 vehicles in Australia over issue with seat belt
Vehicles may mistakenly detect a correctly engaged seat belt as being not engaged
Mercedes-Benz is recalling 341 vehicles in Australia to fix an issue with seat belt, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) said last week. The recall affects certain model year 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class and S-Class. The affected vehicles may mistakenly detect a correctly engaged seat belt as not being engaged. Due to the fault, a warning sound and a warning symbol could appear in vehicle’s the instrument cluster. This may cause the vehicle’s Pre-Safe occupant safety function to not engage in the event of crash. The Pre-Safe function tightens the seat belt in advance if the vehicle detects that an imminent and unavoidable.
