BMW recalls 106,182 units of the X1 in US over impact absorption issue
Automaker is still working on a possible remedy for this recall and will update the affected vehicles when repair is available
BMW will recall 106,182 units of the model year 2016-2019 X1 sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) in the United States over impact absorption issue, according to the filing by the German carmaker to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to the regulator, in the event of the crash where the occupant’s head contact the B-Pillar, the pillar may not be able to absorb an adequate amount of impact, as required by the federal safety standards, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) number 201. The company is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this problem.
