Optimus Ride will use Velodyne’s lidar sensors in its entire fleet of self-driving vehicles, Optimus said in a press release on 27 August. Velodyne’s sensors will enable Optimus Ride’s self-driving vehicle to precisely locate the position of people and objects its their surrounding and also calculate their speed and trajectory. With this information, the vehicle’s on-board computer will determine how to drive safely to its destination.
