UAW workers go on strike against GM in US
First major strike at US automaker in more than a decade
Nearly 50,000 workers, who are member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, have gone on a strike against General Motors (GM) on Sunday mid-night (15 September), demanding higher pay, more benefits, more job security and a greater share of profit, the UAW said in a statement. The union is also pressing GM to agree to limit the use of temporary workers and give them clearer path to permanent employees. With these demands, the union workers, which includes both permanent and temporary workers, walked out of the 31 GM factories and 21 other facilities, spread over nine states in the United States.
