NHTSA issues rule to update vehicle safety standards in automated vehicles
New rule does not impact existing occupant protection requirements for traditional vehicles with manual driver controls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued what it termed as a final rule to modernize several Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) to facilitate development, testing and deployment of highly automated vehicles, the US-based safety agency said in a press release on 14 January.
