India plans to introduce new passenger vehicle rating system with safety assist technology tests

The agency will rate automobiles from one to five stars based on tests evaluating the protection of adult and child occupants as well as safety assist systems

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has planned to introduce a safety rating system, Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) for passenger cars to encourage manufacturers to provide advanced safety technologies and boost the "export worthiness" of vehicles produced in the country, according to a report published by Reuters on 25 June 2022.
