Tesla will unveil its long-awaited robo-taxi on Aug. 8, according to Elon Musk's recent post on X. The forthcoming autonomous vehicle is built on Tesla's next-generation vehicle platform. This comes after the company canceled plans to develop a more affordable electric vehicle, reportedly in the $25,000 price range. Musk informed employees that he wants to focus entirely on an autonomous vehicle that will make other vehicles obsolete, based on a report published by The Verge on April 6.

Musk has been teasing the possibility of a Tesla robo-taxi for years, showcasing a fully covered vehicle at a 2023 event. In his Master Plan Part Deux, he proposed the "Tesla Network," allowing Tesla owners to earn income by sending their autonomous cars to pick up and drop off passengers.

Tesla had aimed to have over 1 million cars on the road with Full Self-Driving (FSD) hardware by mid-2023. However, there have been a significant number of accidents involving Tesla vehicles using FSD and Autopilot, resulting in multiple fatalities. The company is facing numerous wrongful death lawsuits, and the US government is investigating Tesla's self-driving claims. A major recall was announced in 2023.
