Policy & Regulation

Coming after nearly two decades of research, analysis, briefings, stakeholder engagements, and committee deliberations, the much-anticipated FCC ruling implies that the US has joined most automotive markets around the world in a phased transition from DSRC to cellular V2X technology.

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) last month, in a bipartisan and unanimous action, announced the adoption of final rules for the implementation of cellular-vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology. These regulations aim to enhance transportation safety and efficiency by enabling direct communication among vehicles, roadside infrastructure, and other road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. This will facilitate non-line-of-sight awareness and adaption to changing driving conditions, which is pivotal for the integration of automated driving technologies.
