Germany introduces targeted €3 billion EV subsidies for low and middle-income households to reinvigorate electric vehicle adoption amid a pause in federal purchase incentives
The German coalition committee has announced a new €3 billion incentive package aimed at restarting consumer support for battery-electric vehicles, specifically targeting low- and middle-income households. Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil (SPD) revealed that the funds, drawn from the national Climate & Transformation Fund and the EU Social Climate Fund, will be reallocated to help these income groups acquire zero-emission cars without increasing the federal budget deficit, a key consideration following a 2023 constitutional court ruling.
