NHTSA investigates Waymo robo-taxis for traffic law violations near school buses
Waymo self-driving vehicles are under investigation after an incident near a stopped school bus in Georgia
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated a preliminary investigation into approximately 2,000 Waymo self-driving vehicles after reports that its robo-taxis may have violated traffic safety laws concerning a stopped school bus. This scrutiny of the Alphabet unit's vehicles is a part of regulators' broader examination of how driverless technologies interact with pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. The investigation began after a media report highlighted a video incident in Georgia, where a Waymo vehicle failed to remain stationary as it approached a school bus with flashing red lights and a deployed stop arm.
