The success of legislation and incentives designed to boost the uptake of PEVs varies greatly from one market to another and for varied reasons.

Although incentives are similarly structured in different countries — most commonly through tax rebates/reductions at purchase, reductions in running costs such as taxation, and grants toward infrastructure — their effect on PEV uptake in the nation or region can range from significant to somewhat minimal.

The last couple of years have been pivotal in reshaping EV-related policies across major markets worldwide. While most governments have intensified their focus on accelerating the transition to electric mobility by introducing more ambitious and targeted measures, the US, with the administration change, has seen some not-so-favorable policies that could slowdown the EV market in the short- to mid-term.

These include incentives offered at the state/province level and the national/federal level; and of all forms — incentives, tax exemptions, rebates, subsidies, grants and loans.
