Japan urges Nissan, NEC and Sony to merge lithium-ion battery business
Move to preempt the strong growth of Chinese lithium battery business
A Japanese state backed fund is urging Automotive Energy Supply Corporation (AESC) which is a Nissan and NEC Corp joint venture to merge with Sony’s lithium ion battery operations to control the rise of Chinese and Taiwanese companies from capturing key technologies in the sector, Reuters reports quoting the Yomiuri newspaper in Japan.
