Policy of producing three million vehicles per year in Japan will not be affected

Toyota has shut one of the three production lines at its plant in the city of Tahara, Aichi prefecture, central Japan, as part of its moves to streamline operations, reports Jiji Press, citing company officials. The line closure will reduce the plant's annual production capacity from 600,000 units to 400,000 units but will help raise the plant's operating rate and the company's profitability, according to the officials. With the closing of the line, which produced the RAV4 and Vanguard sport utility vehicles (SUVs), RAV4 production was shifted to the automaker's Takaoka plant in the city of Toyota, also in Aichi prefecture, while Vanguard production was terminated, the officials said.
