Environmental concerns are the sole driver for the adoption of a new refrigerant. Air conditioning systems impact the environment through: leakage according to their respective Global Warming Impact, and also in terms of fuel consumption to run the a/c system. It is the former that is addressed by the EU regulation (F-Gas Directive 2006/40/EG) for mobile air conditioning systems
