General Motors (GM) to assemble batteries for Spark EV in-house
IHS Automotive alternative powertrain forecasts suggest GM will raise production of the Spark EV from 1,600 units in 2014 to 2,600 in 2020
GM is to assemble its own batteries for the 2015 model-year Chevrolet Spark electric vehicle (EV), rather than source them from an external supplier. In a company statement, executive director of GM global transmission and electrification engineering Larry Nitz said: "Using our in-house engineering and manufacturing expertise enabled us to deliver a battery system that is more efficient and lighter than the 2014 Spark EV without sacrificing range.
