Former JCI executive hired to lead A123 Venture Technologies
Appointment adds considerable technical depth to the leadership team at A123.
A123 Systems has hired a new chief technology officer, Patrick Hurley, who will lead A123's research and development (R&D) group and replaces Mujeeb Ijaz. The R&D arm is part of A123 Venture Technologies, based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Hurley will also be responsible for integrating the company's battery development at operations in China, according to an Automotive News report. The purpose of creating A123 Ventures in May 2013 was to shift away from operating R&D as a separate system to developing it into a cross-developmental department; in a company statement, A123 says Hurley's appointment, and his responsibility for the Hangzhou operations is part of that process.
