Honda recalls another 4.5 million cars over faulty Takata airbags, Nissan admits airbag caused fire in X-Trail
Total number of Honda vehicles recalled in connection with the issue has now exceeded 24.5 million
Honda has announced plans to recall another 4.5 million vehicles outside of North America over faulty Takata airbags, reports BBC News. According to a Honda spokesperson in Tokyo, "Some airbag inflators had uneven gas density, which we worry could do some harm. It is a preventive measure and unlike other normal recalls we are not waiting for the full results of the research." Of the total, about 1.63 million cars will be recalled in Japan. Separately, Nissan confirmed yesterday (8 July) that a faulty airbag manufactured by Takata caused a fire in an X-Trail sport utility vehicle (SUV) involved in a car crash in central Japan on 25 June.
