California now has seventeen companies permitted to test their autonomous vehicles on the state's roads

California has issued self-driving vehicle testing permits to Valeo and Wheego, according to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report. Citing the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the WSJ reports that the companies received approval for programmes involving one vehicle operated by up to four people. Valeo is working on autonomous vehicle components, while Wheego is a private company looking to design and sell electric vehicles. Separately, Here has announced a multi-phase project designed to develop automated vehicle and freight movement technologies over a specific portion of an interstate highway in Iowa (United States).
