Bidirectional charging technologies and their role in global EV adoption

While bidirectional charging technology has significant benefits to offer including providing stability of the power grid and savings to individual consumers as well as fleet operators, it does have its own set of challenges such as affordability and cybersecurity risks. Will the technology see a widespread adoption in the coming years?

As efforts intensify to decarbonize the transportation sector, the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) offers great new opportunities and major challenges. One of the biggest obstacles, besides a lack of sufficient EV charging infrastructure, is the load that millions of EVs — when charged at the same time — can place on the existing power grids, potentially overwhelming local and regional power systems.
