Li Shufu presented methanol vehicles mainly as a solution for commercial and heavy-duty transport, where weight, life-cycle cost and emissions are key considerations

At the 2026 China Smart Electric Vehicle Development Forum, Geely Chairman Li Shufu said that the carmaker will continue to focus on methanol as an alternative energy pathway, as lithium battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) can weigh twice as much as comparable methanol-powered vehicles.
