The delay violates FMVSS 111 on rear visibility and increases the crash risk by impairing the driver's ability to detect hazards behind the vehicle

Tesla has announced a recall of nearly 219,000 vehicles in the US due to a rearview camera delay that can last up to 11 seconds when shifting into reverse. The recall affects certain Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X units from 2017 to 2024, all equipped with Tesla's Hardware 3 Full Self-Driving computer and running software version 2026.8.6.
