Mazda delays long-range EV to 2029 and shifts investment toward hybrids
Mazda is cutting planned electrification spending, prioritizing Skyactiv-Z hybrid models, and maintaining limited Chinese-built EV offerings amid uneven global demand
Mazda has postponed the launch of its first dedicated long-range electric vehicle (EV) from 2027 to at least 2029, citing minimal progress and shifting priorities. CEO Masahiro Moro stated that the decision was made before production began, which allowed the company to avoid write-downs or impairments, since no factory retooling or supplier contracts had been initiated. This situation differs from companies such as Ford, GM, and Stellantis, which have incurred significant losses when altering their EV strategies.
