The joint venture reviews project chemistry, structure and future amid shifting US EV policies and automakers’ retreat from South Korean battery partnerships

A $3.5 billion battery project led by a joint venture (JV) between Samsung SDI and General Motors (GM) in New Carlisle, Indiana, has been put on hold as GM adjusts its electric vehicle (EV) strategy in response to moderating demand. A spokesperson for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, chaired by Indiana Governor Mike Braun, confirmed that the project is being paused.
