The study covered 50 million driverless miles in San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Austin, but IIHS said federal monitoring needs improvement
Waymo driverless cars had 68% fewer police-reportable crashes per mile than human drivers, though federal monitoring of automated vehicles needs improvement, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) said.
