Key themes: The 2026 Beijing Auto Show put a full spotlight on the trends of electrification and intelligent vehicle technologies.
Global OEMs including Volkswagen, Toyota, and Nissan are deepening collaboration with mainland China’s local supply chains and innovation ecosystems to regain traction in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market. Alongside the launch of new electric models, foreign automakers highlighted advances in battery technology, digital cockpit systems, and driver assistance solutions. Mainland China’s role is evolving beyond that of a launch market to become a global center for R&D, product definition, and technology validation.
A standout trend among new model debuts is the rapid expansion of large size NEV SUVs, priced far more aggressively than historical norms. Multiple six‑seat models entered the RMB 220,000–300,000 range, offering advanced technologies and premium interior experiences. Mainland Chinese OEMs are using rapid technology upgrades to drive consumer up‑segmentation, intensifying competitive pressure on traditional premium brands.
